My first haircut experience at the school was fantastic. This second cut was at least 5 inches shorter than I asked for and not at all to my wishes.
I understand training schools and taking that into consideration, I am still very disappointed. The first cut was made by the instructor, and it was already too short. The instructor was more concerned about her upcoming review, than listening to what I wanted. It will grow back, but I particularly hate short hair, especially when I was looking for a mid length cut. In the end, the two sides were uneven, so we had to cut even more. I have naturally curly hair that is fairly thin and he texturized it making the curls look like split ends.

I have been a client of sbcc cosmetology academy for over 20 years now. I have never had a bad service there. I love being able to go and get cheaper services then the market price while also helping students practice their craft. I've had both haircuts and perms there and have always been happy.
The way the program is set up, teachers always check the students work so you don't need to be scared of the students making a mistake.
You do end up spending a little bit more time here than an average salon because students are working on you, but I think it's more than worth the price difference between the cosmetology academy and a normal salon.
The salon is always clean and the students always practice the best disinfection practices. I've never worried about sanitation when there.
The atmosphere is always lively and bright. The instructors and students have always been kind to me.
I'm not sure if they take walk-in clients currently, but it's relatively easy to call them and make an appointment for a service. Usually in the beginning of the school semester they are very booked but as long as you call ahead you should be able to find an appointment.
They are conveniently located right by a public parking lot.
If you're getting more than a simple haircut, I suggest finding unlimited time street parking just so you don't have to pay at the public parking lot as some services can take longer here than other salons.

I have enjoyed the couple times I have had my hair cut, here. The students work really hard and the instructors seem knowledgable. It's fun to be a part of the learning process. Persnickety and rushed people shouldn't bother, but if you know how to be a cool customer, I think it's absolutely worth a visit.

I've always been able to wash, cut, and color my own hair, but when I broke my hand in early August, I could do none of that, including blowing it dry or styling it, much less even hold a brush in my hand! Thanks to SBCC Cosmetology Academy for coming to the rescue! I have had nothing but superb results from Jasmine, Alley, Jessica and most recently Jade, who did color for me. I'm at that age where the hair at my temples has turned silver/white, and I decided it was time to have the rest of my locks match. Was I nervous about this change? Yep. Much less entrusting a 20-something yr old to color my hair in a drastic way (for conservative me?), heck yes! Jade did a phenomenal job. She was astute in listening to me as a client for the results I sought, and consulted with her instructors every step of the way. These pics are a week later, with no makeup (except now I have my cast off and after some PT can hold a hair dryer and a brush)... Kudos to Jade and the expert instructors for conveying solid learning.

Michelle is a very skilled stylist and extremely knowledgeable about the most current coloring techniques. She gave my old balayage a refresh and was extremely thorough in painting on baby lights on my face framing layers to steer clear of the chunky highlight look I was trying to avoid. She took note of my request for cooler tones and executed that perfectly with toner. 5 starts for Michelle! Awesome work 🙂

I attended the Esthetician program in the spring semester of 2022 and I loved school for the first time in my life. Sian and Victoria are incredible instructors and I am so grateful to have had them. I can't even imagine going to a better school/learning environment. I couldn't afford a traditional beauty school and would recommend SBCC to everyone over any beauty school anyway. This is a place where students can feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and ask questions. I cannot say enough great things about Sian though. She's someone I will be incredibly grateful to for my entire career because of her support and honesty. Thank you for fostering a beautiful environment!

Call ahead to make an appointment. Or drop in to schedule an appointment. Excellent air circulation. Excellent supervision of the students. I had a manicure. I was very happy with the results and the professionalism of the students. They welcome all ages. I'm looking forward to returning with my children. My mother is a regular here. She brought me when I was growing up to their prior location. This location is, in my opinion, one of the very nicest salons in the area.
